Charlene Soraia – When We Were Five

I’ve mentioned this girl a few times on this blog now and I’m excited to post the lead single off of her first LP. It’s unknown what the name of the album is at the moment or when its due to drop, but “When We Were Five”, the single, comes out on August 9th, but you can hear it here now.

I’m a pretty big fan of her EPs, which are all exceptional, especially “Daffodils & Other Idylls“. As for this new single, I really love the vibe when the song gets going. It’s 6+ minutes long which is a bit crazy for a debut single (in the sense that this will be the first thing many people hear by her), and its a very moody track. It definitely doesn’t feel like a single. That being said, I quite enjoy it once we get about 15 seconds in, but that incessant high pitched sound at the beginning of the tune could be a bit off-putting to some.  Get past that and I quite like the song.

SEXAYYYYYYYYYYYYYY.

I fucking love it. Don’t you love it? Everyone should love it.

Artist spotlight: The Go-Away Birds

The Go-Away Birds are Catherine Ireton (God Help The Girl) & Michael John McCarthy (Zoey Van Goey) of  Scotland. They’re also sometimes joined by the great Stuart Murdoch of Belle & Sebastian fame.

They’ve just released their 4th EP and you can get it for free by signing up to their site. Click here.

The music is very quaint folk/coffeeshop style. Ireton has a gorgeous voice and this is a nice way to spotlight it.

Quickie reviews – Cheap games picked up this week.

CHEAP SHIT RULES

As previously mentioned, I picked up some games on the cheap at Blockbuster as they have their somewhat regular “Buy One Get One Free” pertaining to their $14.99 and under selection going on. There were quite a few that I hadn’t had the chance to play that I picked up, so here are some quickie reviews. My quickie reviews are as short as a word or as long as a couple of sentences, but they’re not meant to be in-depth.

Fear 2: Project Origin (Xbox 360) – This was the most surprising. Not bad for cheap. Bit hokey. I don’t see how it fits in with the original that I first played on the PC though.

Velvet Assassin (Xbox 360) – Complete and utter horseshit. One of the worst games I’ve ever played.

Red Faction: Guerrilla (Xbox 360) – Not bad, but not a fan of stories that take place on Mars.

Ratchet & Clank: Tools of Destruction (PS3) – Pretty decent. Good graphics. Not my cup of tea though.

I have a couple more to play that I’ll be giving a whirl today or this week.
